A Miraculous Boost

According to the practitioners of Zhineng Qigong, this traditional Chinese training method will boost your vitality, improve your health and trigger your latent abilities – both physically and mentally. Nothing less.

- "Qi" stands for vitality, the basics for all humans' well-being. By training Qigong you get more Qi. This makes you more vital and energetic, claims Herbjørn Wilhelmsen, the representative for the European Zhineng Qigong Centre.

From minus to plus

According to Wilhelmsen it does not stop there. – An individual's health is like a scale, rising from minus to plus. By training Qigong you will increase your Qi. From minus to zero, it is all about reducing illnesses. From zero and up, it revolves around building you up, both mentally and physically. You can redeem and develop latent abilities, becoming more concentrated and harmonic, Herbjørn Wilhelmsen explains.

He is eager to point out that Zhineng Qigong (pronounced "chigong") is neither connected with religious nor sectarian matters. Zhineng Qigong is simply a training method based on its philosophical ancestry.

Qigong is a common denominator for several training methods with roots in ancient China, including among other things some soft martial art varieties. Zhineng Qigong is one of the training methods that fits the Qigong direction, but has nothing to do with martial art. This variety was founded by Dr. Pang Ming in the 1980's, exciting his good friend, Su Dongyue. So it is he who should be credited for the progress of Zhineng Qigong in the western part of the world. Su Dongyue lives today in Stockholm, leading the European Zhineng Qigong Center. Zhineng Qigong is built on the classical elements from the ancient Qigong tradition.

Hold Qi up

Wilhelmsen can tell that there has been medical research exploring what can be achieved by training Zhineng Qigong, and the results have been very good.

To get started with Qigong you simply go to a course, and thereafter you practise on your own or in groups. - The basic course is called "Hold Qi Up". The name shows that the training aims to increase the individual's Qi, the Qigong enthusiast says.

Those who have been to South-east Asia may have seen the quite special phenomenon: The collective morning exercises in the parks. Many of the exercises being performed in these parks are different directions of Qigong. Zhineng Qigong emphasizes concentration and harmonic movements, and may look like a meditative sport's exercise.

- Some people may wonder what these graceful movements are all about, like arms being elevated slowly and concentrated. Normal training, like running, overstrains and breaks down the body, being built up by eating and resting. By repeating this the body will be stronger, enduring the exposure of strain. You break it down to build a stronger body. Qigong functions differently. It regenerates the vitality of the body without breaking the functions down in the first place. All the focus is aimed towards supplying the individual with more Qi. That is pure Energy and Vitality, Wilhelmsen concludes.
